10 gallon linseed & barley boiler
Traditional linseed and barley boilers hand built to order by craftsmen in our Bristol factory.
Due to the very high cost of stainless steel these boilers are not currently being manufactured as stock items. As a traditional manufacturer with an excellent reputation for service and quality we are unwilling to revert to lower quality material or to reduce the specification to decrease the price artificially at the expense of long term durability. Until material prices return to a sensible level we have ceased volume manufacture. We can still supply spares and heaters.
If you particularly require a Farvis Linseed Boiler we can build you one on a bespoke basis, but the cost has to reflect the manufacture of an individual unit made by a dedicated craftsman rather than the economies of batch production.
We apologise for the lack of supply as we know that our boilers do provide a quality of feed that surpasses all other forms of preparation, but production will resume when the price of stainless steel returns to a sensible level.
NOW WITH STAINLESS STEEL WATER JACKET, COOKING POT & LID
Your FARVIS boiler incorporates a food grade stainless steel water jacket and a separate food grade stainless steel cooking pan and lid. Although the outward appearance is unchanged, this provides an incredibly long lasting inner unit that is virtually immune from corrosion. Galvanised components are eventually attacked by the acid in feed - stainless is not. The casing of the boiler is made from heavy gauge industrial thickness painted steel to provide a long lasting and robust exterior. What you see is not a painted tin covering like a washing machine - but a heavy gauge steel casing, designed to last a long time.
Our heater elements are easy to change and available from us as spares with fitted plug and cable, ready to screw in.
Our long years of experience in making these boilers has shown that our boilers keep going long after cheaper and rather more flimsy creations have rusted away. There is nothing 'fancy' in the design. It is traditional and it works well. Farvis units are not designed to be cheap and cheerful for a couple of years. Our boilers are built to last, by craftsmen. Each one is hand made and hand finished - and built to your order.
Our boilers have been used by top UK studs and establishments for almost half a century. They combine traditional strength of welded steel with modern energy saving insulation, an efficient heater and a food grade lift out stainless steel cooking pan.
Heated by an electric element, the basic boiler is available in two sizes, 10 gallons and 25 gallons. Water is heated in an outer jacket and as it boils the heat is absorbed into the feed, gently cooking it without burning.
A water tap is provided for drawing off piping hot water for washing down and general use. Feed is cooked in a separate food grade stainless steel cooking pan with special handles that can be removed from the boiler for use as a dispensing tub and for cleaning.
Feed preparation is a long process, taking approximately 12 hours or more and our boilers are fitted with a generous water tank. The 2.5 KW element fitted to the boiler provides sufficient power to boil the water slowly and to cook the feed gently and economically.
As an option, your boiler can be factory fitted with a 'thermo-simmer' control unit and / or a wall mounted timer control. The thermo-simmer provides faster initial heating and permits feed to be kept at approximately 80 oC. The timer enables the main heater to be switched on and off as required so that the boiler can provide a fully automatic heating and cooking facility.
Power consumption with a standard heater unit is 3 KW on 10 gallon and 10 gallon thermo simmer. The 25 gallon requires 3 - 6 KW depending on specification. Each heater is fitted with a separate 13 amp domestic plug - i.e. one plug for a standard and two for a thermo-simmer.
Every unit is hand built to a specific order. Delivery is usually 3 - 8 weeks from receipt of funds. Please order in good time as each unit is hand built and while we do hold a small stock, they are not always available 'off the shelf'.
These boilers are only available directly from the manufacturer - please contact us for prices and a brochure.
