WE SPONSOR AWARDS AT THE
ASSOCIATION OF LAND ROVER CLUBS INTERNATIONAL RALLY
The 'ARC International' involves the very best in friendly international off road motor sport competition, concourse d'elegance, social activities and brings together people from all parts of the World to jointly run one of the biggest single marque holiday gatherings in the World.
The event can only run because members of all the Association clubs help out, both organising the event, planning, dealing with the domestic activities, camping and services - and of course by marshalling and competing in the various sporting events.
The event is run entirely on private land.
Why does a company supplying contractor's plant sponsor this type of event ?
1). As a long established engineering business we see the preservation of our industrial heritage as important and this is an area we felt to be neglected. Our awards encourage the preservation and the use of historic vehicles on a regular basis.
2). Many people who use our equipment are involved in the operation of utility, 4x4 and off road transport and enjoy visiting historic transport events where preserved vehicles are on show.
3). We hope to get publicity - and sales - from it!
WILLIAM FARVIS TROPHY
FOR THE BEST PRESERVED SERIES 2 OR SERIES 2a LAND ROVER ATTENDING THE RALLY BUT NOT ENTERED INTO A CONCOURSE D'ELEGANCE CLASS OR EVENT
For owners who take pride in their vehicles and use them regularly but who do not have the time, resources or opportunity to maintain to a concourse standard. The award is intended to encourage owners of older Land Rovers still in regular use to look after them, and so preserve our motoring heritage.
The judging is done unobtrusively and the award is supposed to come as a surprise to someone has looked after a vehicle, but would not normally have had any chance of winning a prize.
FARVIS BOILERS SHIELD
For the best working vehicle entered into the concourse d'elegance. Intended for a vehicle maintained to a very high standard but still used for the original purpose. The level of judging tries to equate the presented condition to what it would have been after 6 - 12 months in service. Daily operation is not required but the vehicle must be used throughout the year. It must have been driven to the event and not trailered!
FARVIS CONTRACTORS PLANT SHIELD
The vehicle the judges would most like to take home with them.
Like the 'dog with the waggiest tail' this is for the Rover vehicle that most appeals to the judges of the concourse d'elegance - for what ever reason!
FARVIS 'SPIRIT OF THE EVENT' AWARD
Some enthusiasts will give hundreds of hours of unpaid work to make the event a success. Others will do the most thankless tasks and in some cases miss much of the action, because they are performing some vital role behind the scenes. There have been times when deadly competitors in the sporting events have assisted each other, perhaps by providing spares, know-how or tools to repair an opponent's vehicle, regardless of the final outcome and knowing that to do so may cost them a win.
The International Rally is perhaps one of the last events where taking part is truly more important than winning. Our 'SPIRIT OF THE EVENT' award is intended to promote that and give recognition to some of the unsung heroes who make it what it is.
This trophy is intended to reward the individual or team who does most to further that spirit of friendship and co-operation.
