OIL JACKETED BOILER

10 GALLON CAPACITY  ( 45 lts )

Suitable for use with polymer, rubber and jet fuel resistant bitumen compounds where an indirectly heated bitumen boiler is required.

This boiler is supplied as a complete package including oil, burner, control system and gas fittings.

10 gallon ( 45 lts ) capacity FARVIS oil jacketed bitumen boiler.

(Outlet tap is on far side of the boiler and not shown in this photograph)

This boiler is suitable for special bitumen, polymer and rubber materials and some thermoplastics.  Using an oil jacket prevents hot spots in the heating pan and stops localised overheating which does long term damage to the sealant.  Damage can take some time to become apparent and cause the material to become brittle and lose adhesion .  This can become apparent several months after application and cause complete failure of a joint.

The purpose of the oil jacket is NOT to control the temperature of the sealant, it is to prevent spot heating from the direct action of the burner on the base of the heating pan.  By heating the material indirectly through a heat transfer oil, the thermal stress of heating is absorbed and the sealant receives the correct amount of heat without being damaged.  If heated in a standard boiler, the sealant is in direct contact with the container bottom and sides, which in turn are heated by the gas burner.  As the material circulates in the pan, all of it eventually comes into contact with the hot surface and this can lead to denaturing of the rubber or polymer content.  This is known as 'spot heating'.

Oil jacketed boilers are slower to heat material as the transfer of heat is done through the oil, but they provide a much more accurate and efficient way of heating.  With the fitted Propamiser, once the initial temperature is set, the system is almost fully automatic.  There is a temperature gauge to check and set the oil temperature on first heating and a flame failure control if the wind blows the pilot light out!  The control system does not require any outside power supply and automatically controls the burner to maintain the correct temperature.  We supply a separate hand held thermometer to check the sealant temperature when ready to pour.
