FARVIS BITUMEN BOILERS

home

We can supply spare parts for everything we have ever made! Even if the part is no longer available we almost always have something that will do the job.

TELEPHONE : 01278  723388

FAX :  01278  723820

      E-MAIL :  SALES@FARVISBOILERS.CO.UK

We will need to know some basic information so that you can obtain the correct part.

If you don't want to follow through the steps below, just phone us and we can sort it out, but it may save time to look at the following information to be sure of what you want.

.. or we can send you a dimension

sheet that you can fill in and fax back.

STEP 1

....... is it one of ours?

If it is, it will have a 'FARVIS' nameplate. This will usually be an oval either cast or stencilled.  A few units may have a small pop riveted aluminium plate with the details engraved on the lower part of the plate.

badge.JPG (154157 bytes)       LOGO1840.JPG (211462 bytes)

If you are not sure - does the boiler have angle legs and a slot in the middle of the casing with a 'v' shaped burner bracket.  If yes, then it is one of ours.

DCP_3740.JPG (242735 bytes)

As a confirmation, all our boilers are insulated and have a second internal steel liner and insulating material. This is held in with bolts but may be welded into position on units built after 2012.

Is it a static, mobile or trolley mounted boiler?

These pictures refer to static units but the dimensions are the same for mobiles.  Also, does it have hand stir paddles, a thermostat or is it from an oil jacket or asphalt heater.  Nearly all the spares we supply are for standard boilers and generally there is no need to worry about the 'specials'.  If you have one, you'll know - but we must too!

.,... for instance, this is a hand stir unit .......     ha.jpg (177825 bytes)

Now we need to know the size so that we can match up the parts you need.  We have drawings and data in the factory, so if you tell us what we need to know, then we can send the correct part. If you don't then the spares may not fit!  Obviously we don't need every measurement if you only want a single item, but please take the time to get the sizes right as this saves a lot of hassle for everyone!

A boiler is made up of the following parts: ( just click on the item you want to replace.)

The PAN - this holds the bitumen.

The CASE - the pan sits inside the case and the burner fits in a bracket at the bottom.

The LID - this fits over the pan and acts as a weather shield and fire snuffer.

The BURNER - which provides the heat.

The HOSE AND REGULATOR ASSEMBLY - an armoured gas  hose and regulator set  - factory assembled.

STEP 2

Now we need some measurements.

Please use imperial measurements- i.e. inches!!

We only need to know the details of the part you require - however please be sure to say what part you have measured and what you want!

If you prefer, we can send you a dimension sheet that you can fill in and fax back.

Not only do we need the sizes, but we also need the item to be measured in the correct  place - then we both know that we are talking about the same thing!

THE PAN

We need to know the diameter of the pan and the height of the pan wall to the top.   You may have to remove bitumen and dirt to get the measurement and we don't need it to be exact, but we will need you to be accurate to within 1/4 of an inch.

Look at the two photographs and record the measurements.

PAN HEIGHT IN INCHES                                   PAN INTERNAL DIAMETER IN INCHES  ( inside edges )

            panheight.JPG (303335 bytes)                                          pandia.JPG (315739 bytes)

DOES THE PAN HAVE A TAP SOCKET?

Yes                 No

legs.JPG (219105 bytes)

This is fitted during manufacture and we MUST know when you order!

THE CASE

IF THE BOILER HAS A TAP IT WILL HAVE LONGER LEGS UNLESS IT IS A 'SPECIAL' In general, short leg boilers don't have a tap fitted.  We MUST know about the tap when you order.

  legs.JPG (219105 bytes)

Look at the pictures below - we need the height of the casing, not how high the boiler is off the ground.  Measure the height of the green bit - NOT the pan as well !!

caseheight.JPG (298432 bytes)

Measure to the top of the case as in the photos - NOT to the top of the pan ring.

Here the height of the casing is 22 inches.

 caseheight2.JPG (269317 bytes)                                                                                     caseheight2.JPG (269317 bytes)

Now measure the  diameter of the casing to the outside of the top ring.

casedia.JPG (231013 bytes)

THE LID

These get driven over, fall off, turned into Frisbees and generally mangled. However the lid is a VITAL safety feature as it keeps water out of the bitumen and acts as a fire snuffer in the event of an overheat. It is part of the boiler and must be in good and serviceable condition.

Simply measure the diameter and let us know what it is ....

DCP_3741.JPG (182132 bytes)

and if you don't have the lid any more, just measure the diameter over the pan walls ......

BUT TELL US THAT IS WHAT YOU HAVE MEASURED!

DCP_3742.JPG (275464 bytes)

TAPS & SOCKETS

We used to supply a 2 inch bore unit but we have now reduced this to 1.5 inches.   If you have one of the older boilers - and there are still lots about, then we can supply a converter bush to fit the new tap. However if you don't tell us, we won't know.

How can you tell - to be really confusing it is easier to use metric measurements for this:

1.5" size has a measurement of 55 mm across the OUTSIDE diameter of the socket.

The 2" has a measurement of 67 mm across the OUTSIDE diameter of the socket.

DCP_3739.JPG (510495 bytes)

There have been various types of tap but we now supply a GATE or BANJO type ( pt no 169 ) or the SAFETY TAP (pt no 170 ) which is standard supply. We do not sell individual components for taps.  The type of tap depends on your use and the material - for instance thermoplastic needs a 169 type while bitumen is best  with a 170.

              OBSOLETE ( pt 168 )                BANJO / GATE ( pt 169 )                    SAFETY   ( pt 170 )

BURNERS and GAS FITTINGS

For detailed information on burners, lease see our  separate informationA matched burner is supplied free with every new boiler supplied. This section refers to replacement items, NOT a first purchase!!

In most cases, you will require a standard burner, and then we need to know the size of the boiler.  We use the same burner unit for all standard boilers, but fit a different injector.  The standard type will fit our 10, 15, 25 and 50 gallon boilers but for the 5 gallon we down jet the burner.  For a 50 gallon we fit a larger size, but the unit will also operate with a standard boiler - it is just slightly slower.  You can fit a smaller jet to a bigger boiler but NEVER a bigger jet to a smaller boiler.  Jet numbers are stamped on the side of the jet.  However do not disassemble a burner unless you know exactly what you are doing!

Burner jet sizes are as follows:

5 gallon - 95, 110 or 120 jet.

10, 15,25 gallon - 250 jet

50 gallon - 300 jet

You must NOT fit the incorrect burner or jet. Tell us the size of the boiler you have and we will supply the correct one for  the job!

Burner set up

gas spares.JPG (317878 bytes)

Here is a standard burner and in the bag, an armoured gas hose and regulator set.  These two items are sold separately. The hose and regulator are consumable items and should be changed each year - or sooner if damaged.

STEP 3

Check your measurements, then phone/fax us saying who you are, where you are ( for delivery ),  what you want , and the dimensions you have measured.

We can then get back to you promptly with a price and delivery information.  We can then dispatch on receipt of payment and the parts should be with you in a couple of days.
