SOME ADVANTAGES OF THE 'PROPAMISER'
1). Propamiser is built entirely in the UK from UK sourced parts. This includes the special control valve which is the heart of the system. We build, service and service exchange from our specialised manufacturing facility in Bristol. We carry service exchange units and can offer a fast turn round repair service.
2).Over 600 have been built and the system is thoroughly proven, reliable and robust. It is not a new or untried design and was developed by experts for professional users. It is hard wearing, long lasting and reliable.
3). The unit requires no power supply, no batteries and no electrical connections.
It is entirely self powered.
4). Propamiser is more than temperature control. It is a fully integrated burner control system with flame failure shut down, gas pressure indicator , temperature gauge and automatic main burner ignition.
5). The system is designed for easy removal from the equipment and when fitted to a bitumen boiler it can be removed without the need to drain down the bitumen pan as the control sensors are enclosed in a special protective probe. It can thus be taken off the boiler for security at the end of the day and also if it needs service.
6). The unit is maintenance free and requires no user adjustment or service.
7). Propamiser is strongly built and reliable.
8). It has a nominal operating range of 50 oC and can be set with a top temperature between 90 oC and 300 oC making it a very flexible unit for a huge variety of materials.
9). We can build specials and alter the range or provide ultra high accuracy control units for special applications. Modulation accuracy on standard units can be as close as 2 oC at 275 oC
10). All units are set up and extensively tested before dispatch. We have full computerised data logging and operating analysis software with three channel real time recording. If required we can provide a full set of performance data and graphs showing operating performance and characteristics. If this sounds technical, it is, but the result is a hard working, accurate and robust thermostat control system.
TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
Propamiser thermostatic control system has been designed specifically to provide a safe and efficient non-electric burner control system for use with high pressure propane gas. Propane should be supplied to it at a pressure not greater than 30 lb./in2 (or 2 bar). The heart of the Propamiser is a high pressure modulating temperature control valve which can be set to operate between 0 oC and 300 oC with a range of 50 oC. This valve varies the flow of gas to the burner. A typical application is temperature control of bitumen boilers and asphalt mixers. Since maximum appliance outlet temperatures allowable are 180 oC - 260 oC, the thermostats are pre-set, as far as possible, to operate at a maximum temperature of 275 oC. The operator can vary the control temperature up to this maximum. To monitor the operation of the thermostatic valve, a temperature gauge and downstream propane pressure gauge are fitted. For correct operation it is, of course, important that the bulb should at all times be surrounded by the medium being controlled, and thus the thermostat pocket should always be covered.
It can be seen that with a temperature control system that can shut off the burner it is essential that the gas is not allowed back to the burner unless there is a means of ignition in the form of a pilot burner. It is also essential to prove that this pilot flame is alight and so, in addition to the temperature control system, Propamiser incorporates a thermoelectric flame failure valve operating on an independent pilot flame by means of a thermocouple which has its tip immersed in the pilot flame. Loss of flame shuts the flame failure valve.
All controls are mounted within a substantial galvanised/powder coated mild steel ventilated case having a shroud front and rear to help protect the instruments from mechanical and weather damage.
We normally supply our pilot burner assembly 14020 which incorporates pilot burner and thermocouple bracket, but any suitable system can be used.

This unit can be supplied for fitting to other equipment and to special order for 'stand alone' control systems.

Typical installation in a FARVIS 25 gallon boiler. Unit is removable for easy service and security.

HOW IT WORKS :
This is a typical data log graph from a Propamiser test - it is the graph of an actual unit, not a demonstration model.
The blue line shows the gas pressure and the red line indicates temperature. This is a low temperature unit running at about 185 oC for thermo-plastics. Other control units can work at 270 oC for standard bitumen. In tests we can usually maintain the temperature within 1 - 2 oC at 200 oC but on site there would be a greater fluctuation as material is used and new supplies are melted down.
You can see how the gas pressure remains at full providing maximum burner power until the operator determined temperature is reached. The system then shuts the main burner off to prevent the material getting too hot. The burner comes on again as the temperature falls. It then cycles, increasing and decreasing the burner gas supply to hold the temperature steady.
You can see from the graph that the control system is accurate enough not to put the burner back to full power - Propamiser only uses what is necessary to maintain the temperature at the set level and thus saves the operator a great deal of fuel! As the red temperature line drops slightly, the blue line, indicating burner output, rises to compensate. If however the temperature drops more than a couple of degrees, Propamiser reacts immediately and gives full power to the burner to take the temperature back to the pre set level - then it switches back to economy and cycles until needed again. It does all this automatically while monitoring the main burner and pilot flame and safeguarding against flame failure.
The result is a safer workplace, better quality material and huge savings in gas.
